Nigel Watson

Nigel is the Executive Director of Antarctic Heritage Trust, a not for profit which cares for amongst other sites Sir Edmund Hillary’s legacy in Antarctica. A qualified lawyer, Nigel bring a range of networks and relationships, significant fundraising and heritage protection experience to the Hillary House Leadership Centre Trust board.  He has conceived, funded and overseen the biggest cold climate heritage conservation programme globally.

 

He has led expeditions to Antarctica over two decades, is the author of Hillary’s Antarctica and was privileged to spend time with Sir Ed in his role as patron of Antarctic Heritage Trust.

 

Nigel created the Inspiring Explorers Expeditions™ programme to connect young people in New Zealand and beyond with the power of exploration; something which defined Sir Ed. This has seen students and teachers from South Auckland’s Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate and beyond embrace exploration on expeditions to the world’s remote places.

 

Nigel’s has not-for-profit governance experience spanning international member organisations, university associations and school foundations.
